30 September (Colchester FirstSite) – 1 October (Colchester ICENI Centre)
Chrysostomos Dimitriou, Glaucoma Lead, East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) and Daniel Lindfield, Head of School for Ophthalmology, Kent, Surrey and Sussex, UK.
iGLEAMS is a pioneering 2-day ophthalmology conference dedicated to the innovative realm of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MiGS), fostering a vibrant platform for the exchange of knowledge, ideas, and advancements in this rapidly evolving field. Showcasing the latest in MiGS, MiBS, MiTS, MiMS, and the upcoming MiNT, iGLEAMS invites medical professionals to explore the future of eye care. Founded by Chrys Dimitriou over three years ago, iGLEAMS has grown into a great event, drawing in more than 200 delegates annually, including experts and newcomers from across the healthcare spectrum.
The ICENI Centre, a renowned surgical simulation hub, hosts the event’s second day, offering an impressive array of the latest Leica surgical microscopes, TriTeQ3 DRV 3D, NGENUITY 3D visualization systems, and the EyeSi Virtual Reality system. These facilities allow for comprehensive simulation experiences across various MiG techniques, providing an unparalleled learning environment.
The previous iteration, iGLEAMS-2, delivered an intensive day of hands-on simulations, led by renowned experts along with valuable contributions from the pharmaceutical industry. Esteemed speakers, leaders in the field of microinvasive glaucoma surgery, shared insights and developments, alongside interactive sessions and awards for outstanding contributions. Guest speaker Lukan Mishev, the pan-European NGENUITY master, shared his secrets for optimising 3D visualisation systems using polychromatic filters in anterior segment surgery.
Looking ahead, iGLEAMS-3, set for September 30 and October 1, 2024, will spotlight 3D technology in ophthalmic simulation via the NGENUITY and OCULUS gonio-imaging introducing MINIject, MiMS, and MiNT surgeries for the first time in UK history. Chrys Dimitriou will present findings from the first series of MINIject and MiMS procedures. Additionally, the event will feature ‘MiGS FEAST’ (Micro-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery for East Anglia Specialty Trainees), a great initiative for East Anglia specialty trainees, supported by prominent educational figures.
Keynote speakers, including the esteemed Leon Au, alongside Professors Ike Ahmed (Toronto, Canada) and Keith Martin (Melbourne, Australia) via online introductions, with key topics of this year’s symposium being ‘The Battle of Schlemm’s Canal’ and ‘Do you believe in MiGS after MiGS?’ The agenda also includes presentations on advanced imaging techniques (‘Trabecular Imaging Techniques Post-MiGS’ presented by Neeru Vallabh), the development of simulation labs (‘Pioneering a Simulation Lab for Eye Surgery’ with David Lockington), use of devices in paediatrics (‘MiGS for Kids’ with Velota Sung) and an intriguing lecture on optic nerve biomechanics (Professor Crawford Downs, Alabama, USA). Additionally, Dan Lindfield, a globally recognized figure, will co-chair iGLEAMS-3, contributing his expertise on the evolution of laser treatments in glaucoma management (‘Past, Present and Future of Lasers for Glaucoma’).
iGLEAMS-3 will be set against the historic backdrop of Colchester, opposite the iconic Colchester Castle, the FirstSite exhibition center will serve as the venue for the first day, offering the unique setting of an immersive cinema for viewing 3D MiGS surgeries – 3D glasses will be provided to all delegates.
Attendees are encouraged to register early for this fully accredited event, promising an enriching experience for professionals committed to advancing glaucoma treatment and care.
Full accreditation has been awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (10 CDP points) and pending additional accreditation by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, as well as Association of Optometrists.
